GuyJean?

What is GuyJean?

GuyJean is either a cool French name or it’s a play on the Japanese word, “gaijin.” The answer is the latter. Gaijin means “foreigner” in Japanese. The more politically-correct word for foreigner is “gaikokujin,” meaning “foreign country person.” But gaijin is used more in daily conversation.

Who is GuyJean?

GuyJean is me, Todd Horinouchi, the creator and author of this blog.

Why GuyJean?

I love irony. I’m a third generation Japanese-American born and raised in the United States. In the early 80’s, I traveled to Japan for the first time. I quickly realized that I didn’t look like the typical blonde-hair, blue-eyed foreigner. Rather, I looked more like one of the locals. As long as I kept my mouth shut, nobody in Japan ever suspected me of being a gaijin. So, lover of irony that I am, why not call myself gaijin, or GuyJean?

What is The GuyJean Chronicles?

Gaijin literally means “outside person.” All my life I’ve been a constant observer of the world, looking as if I were on the outside. I’ve often questioned the status quo. I’ve tried to see both sides to an argument. I’ve tried to walk the road less-traveled while wearing someone else’s shoes. The GuyJean Chronicles is my attempt to communicate my observations, discoveries and experiences in the things that interest me.

So what interests the GuyJean?

  • Current events and social issues
  • World travel, culture and religion
  • Work, recruiting (my day job), money, and investing
  • Entertainment and pop culture, including movies, television, theater and music
  • and whatever else may pique my interest…

So if any of these topics interest you, please read often. I will do my best to post on a regular basis.

I hope you’ll also share your thoughts and join me in recording The GuyJean Chronicles.

Thanks!

Todd aka GuyJean
