Be the Change

What better time to launch a new blog than during Inauguration week. A new President of the United States. A new chapter in American history. A new beginning in my personal attempt to express my thoughts with the world (or at least with a few people I know or who may have googled their way to this site).

I’ll be honest. I’ve started a few blogs in the past that never grew beyond a few posts. The initial excitement wears off pretty quickly when you see your daily hits stay at zero, comments remain empty, and the business of life becomes a larger priority.

But I feel this time will be different. First, I believe I have a lot more to talk about. Second, I believe the things I have to share are important. Third, I just really need this creative outlet. For too long I’ve put off this burning desire to write and express myself. I can’t hold it back anymore.

I have to also admit that President-Elect Barack Obama and his historic campaign have been quite an inspiration for me. Not only am I glad to see a young, intelligent, African-American become President, but I’m in awe at how focused, confident yet humble, articulate and clear-thinking he is. These are qualities of truly successful people, and I hope to be able to emulate some of those qualities in my blog and in my life.

The theme of the Inauguration is “Be the Change.” And lately, I’ve been running into the quote by Ghandi, “We need to be the change we wish to see in the world.” Well, here is my humble attempt to “be the change I wish to see.”

May we all do what we can to be the change in 2009.
